Software version management (SVM) 

Software Version Management (SVM) offers the following functions: 

Specified/actual comparison 

When Guided Fault Finding is launched a specified/actual comparison on the connected vehicle is required (only in the following models: A1 2001, Q3 2012, A4 2008, A5 2008, Q5 2009, A6 2011, A7 2011, A8 2010, A4 USA/CAN 2008, A5 USA/CAN 2008, Q5 USA/CAN 2009, A6 USA/CAN 2011, A7 USA/CAN 2011, A8 USA/CAN 2010). This detects incorrect codes and parameter sets or incompatible software or hardware in the control units and corrects them as necessary. If no specified/actual comparison is made, the following tests may result in faulty repairs because of incorrect vehicle configurations. 

The specified/actual comparison can also be accessed within Guided Fault Finding by selecting Software Version Management (SVM) from the Function/component selection menu. This is necessary when control units are replaced in Guided Fault Finding, or if the specified/actual comparison has been included in the test plan due to fault memory entries. 

SVM code input 

The SVM code input is applied when a specific change to control units is to be made by means of a so-called SVM code. Possible changes may be: hardware test; software modification by update programming; coding; or control unit parameter setting. 

Also in SVM code input, a check is made that all the other control units not affected by the change are correct. SVM codes are mostly given in TPIs (Technical Product Information documents). They may also be included in descriptions of field operations or on update CDs.

The vehicle configuration check can be accessed within Guided Fault Finding by selecting Software Version Management (SVM) from the Function/component selection menu. This detects incorrect codes and parameter sets or adaptions in the control units and corrects them as necessary. 

Check control unit configuration (only possible in the following vehicles: A3 2013, A3 USA/CAN 2013, A4 2016, A4 USA/CAN 2016, A5 2017, A5 USA/CAN 2017, Q5 2017, Q5 USA/CAN 2017, Q7 2016, Q7 USA/CAN 2016, TT 2015, TT USA/CAN 2015) 

The control unit configuration check can be accessed within Guided Fault Finding by selecting the individual control unit functions from the menu. This detects incorrect codes and parameter sets or adaptions in the respective control unit and corrects them as necessary.
